“Still Life”: Jutai Toonoo’s Artist Talk

On Saturday, April 5, Feheley Fine Arts hosted an artist talk with Jutai Toonoo to discuss his latest exhibition of still life images.  The intimate conversation included stories about the origins of many of Toonoo’s drawings, his experiences, and how the news and social issues within the northern community have served as inspiration for his artwork.

Toonoo’s drawings often involve subject matter that sits somewhere between modernity and tradition. His self-portraits and other figurative drawings portray a deep understanding and sensitivity about the human condition.

Toonoo is happy to be spending the remainder of this month working out of the artist-in-residency studio at the Art Gallery of Ontario, thanks to the TD Bank Financial Group’s Visiting Artists program.

Still Life will be at Feheley Fine Arts until April 26, 2014.  If you haven’t had a chance to view the show in person, be sure to check out our Exhibitions page to see all of Jutai Toonoo’s drawings, as well as our Facebook album for more photos from the artist talk and installation.
