Graphic artist William Noah led a prolific art career that lasted nearly five decades. Working in the media of acrylic paint and coloured pencil, Noah was best-known for depicting scenes of his community of Qamani’tuaq. Today, in addition to his renown as an artist, Noah’s legacy lives on as a prominent member of his community. This retrospective exhibition is the first since Noah’s passing in 2020, and will feature a selection of never-before-seen works by the artist.

Exhibition: Shuvinai Ashoona

This mini-show of recent drawings by award-winning Kinngait artist Shuvinai Ashoona will feature recent large scale works by the artist. Ashoona’s recent works take an exciting turn that combines past styles with new subject matter and an extraordinary vibrant colour palette enhanced by the medium of pastel. This show will run in conjunction with Ashoona’s major solo exhibition opening at the Art Gallery of Ontario in 2021, Shuvinai Ashoona: Beyond the Visible.

Exhibition: Land of Plenty – Gjoa Haven Sculpture

March 27 - April 17

Uqsuqtuuq, the Inuktitut name for Gjoa Haven, loosely means “plenty of blubber,” referring the many sea mammals that are local to the area. The community is also abundant in its artistic creativity. Uqsuqtuuq sculptures have always been renowned for their spiritual energy, characterized by eccentric facial expressions and exaggerated forms seen in depictions of shamans, hunters, and animals. Coming this spring: the much-anticipated solo exhibition for Kinngait artist, Johnny Pootoogook. Pootoogook turned heads with his large-scale Raven drawings at Art Toronto in 2019.
