Shuvinai Ashoona‘s extraordinary large-scale drawing Curiosity includes all of the elements for which the artist is best known. She depicts Kinngait from above where various creatures and absurdly placed animals walk and swim through the community. In signature fashion, Ashoona masterfully merges the real with the imagined: bowhead whales swim through the cemetery behind the Anglican church while tentacle monsters brood over the local buildings. A man-creature with a robotic arm, one chicken foot, one monster foot, and a giant green phallus is about to enter the community to join in on the fun.
