Pitaloosie Saila
Pitaloosie Saila (1942-2021) began drawing in the early 1960s and since then has consistently maintained an individual style. Her work has been included in the Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection since 1968.
Notably frequent within Saila’s imagery is the mother and child, where the the matriarch is depicted as strong and nurturing. Additionally, Saila’s subject matter commonly includes animals, particularly birds. Her bold images lend themselves well to the print medium, especially lithography. Saila’s coveted lithographs reveal a masterful use of the medium in which many of her iconic images were made.
