Feheley Fine Arts is excited to present a solo exhibition of Napachie Pootoogook’s later works. The mother of Sobey Award winner Annie Pootoogook and aunt of Shuvinai Ashoona, Napachie Pootoogook’s honest drawings reveal the darker social realities of Inuit life. Often based on personal experiences or stories, her monochromatic drawings vary in subject matter, ranging from domestic violence to local history.
Curated by Leslie Boyd and corresponding with the 10th year anniversary of the Winnipeg Art Gallery‘s Napachie Pootoogook exhibition, this powerful and provocative series will display works that break from the idealization of the Canadian Arctic.
Napachie Pootoogook’s True North will open at Feheley Fine Arts on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 1 PM – 3 PM.
Leslie Boyd’s curator talk will commence at 2 PM.
