Upcoming exhibition: Mark Igloliorte

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming exhibition for artist Mark Igloliorte. Anitta! – Above All Negations opens September 18th, 2021 at Feheley Fine Arts. In this show, Igloliorte shares new works which explore the nuances of colour and text as a driver for learning Indigenous knowledge. His explorations are rooted in language, as well as personal and cultural imagery.

Two show-stopping installations in the exhibition will feature skateboards. Igloliorte, himself an avid skater, uses the wooden decks as a vehicle to explore the language of Inuktitut. The two sibling wall installations will feature twenty skateboard decks each, coloured with luminous gradients moving across each board. Stenciled Inuktitut words are painted on with aerosol. Words like Ottugak, meaning “do by trial and error,” and Piusik, meaning “become better,” speak to the artist learning language through the practice of painting—a testament to practice as process, both in learning language and skateboarding.

Anitta! – Above All Negations runs from September 18 – October 9, 2021. The artist will be present for the opening reception on September 18, 3-5PM where appropriate safety protocols will be taken regarding COVID-19. The exhibition will also be available to view virtually at feheleyfinearts.com.
