Marcel Dzama’s early drawings opens tomorrow

Marcel Dzama, RICH , ca. 1997, Ink and watercolour, 12 1/2 x 9 3/4 in.

Feheley Fine Arts has decided to finish the calendar year with an unusual exhibition.   In a change from our customary Inuit collections, we are excited to present Waiting for the Man, a rare exhibition of early figurative drawings by Marcel Dzama.   This collection of small-scale ink and watercolour drawings was donated to the Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art in Winnipeg by the artist to raise funds for future programming.

All of the drawings were created between 1994 – 2000 and are indicative of Dzama’s time with the Royal Art Lodge, an art collective in Winnipeg known for its youthful and darkly humorous mixed media works.   Wayne Baerwaldt, Director and Curator of Calgary’s Illingworth Kerr Gallery explained, “The drawings in this exhibition represent the formative style of Dzama’s countless mixed media drawings, sculptures, films and installations into the 21st Century.”

Canadian Art has already named Feheley Fine Art’s vintage Marcel Dzama show as a ‘must-see!’   Join us from 2-4 pm on November 23rd for the opening of Waiting for the Man” at Feheley Fine Arts.
