2019 Venice Biennale: Isuma Collective

Igloolik-based film and multimedia art collective Isuma (Paul Apak Angilirq, Norman Cohn, Zacharias Kunuk, Pauloosie Qulitalik) is representing Canada at the 2019 Venice Biennale. Their video installation showcases feature-length films and livestreams that give international audiences a look into life across Inuit Nunangat. Isuma is the first-ever Inuit art collective to be featured in the historic Canada Pavilion.

Feheley Fine Arts invites you to an enchanting evening of masquerade! On June 13, join us for an exhibition of phantasmagoric wearable artwork by Mathew Nuqingaq, including snow goggles and jewelry. Nuqingaq, CM, is an Iqaluit-based performance artist, photographer, sculptor, jewelry-maker, drum dancer, and Member of the Order of Canada. He is best known for his wearable works of art that draw on Inuit symbols and stories. The artist will be present at the opening.

The Co-op, now known as the Kinngait Studios which are part of the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, have been intimately involved in the lives of the artists in Cape Dorset for the past 60 years. The studios have provided  working spaces, communal encouragement and opportunities for skills development. Generations of artists have celebrated the ‘Co-op’ in drawings with portraits of their colleagues and depictions of the buildings and  everyday operations.
