Tim Pitsiulak

Tim Pitsiulak (1967–2016) was best known for the extraordinary drawings which granted him status as one of Kinngait’s (Cape Dorset’s) most sought-after contemporary artists. He was also an accomplished sculptor, jewelry-maker and photographer.

Pitsiulak divided his time between drawing and hunting. His respect for the wildlife in his region is evident in his large scale drawings capturing the images of walrus, whales, bears and seals. Pitsiulak also expressed admiration for his ancestors by including images from early Inuit culture superimposed on his drawings. During his career he consistently challenged himself as an artist, working in varying scales, perspectives and media.
