Padloo Samayualie

Padloo Samayualie (b. 1977) is a relatively new artist at the Kinngait Studios. Within several short years, she has established herself as one of the studio’s most prolific artists currently working in coloured pencil.

Samayualie’s images are sometimes based on photographs, sometimes from memory, and often simply on her keen observation of the world around her. Precise detail is combined with an excellent sense of colour in her depictions that see no bounds to subject matter. From a minuscule pencil sharpener to the grand skyscrapers of New York City, no subject is too large nor too small for Samayualie to capture.

In 2001, Samayualie travelled to Banff for a drawing workshop and later, in 2007, took part in the National Film Board animation workshop in her hometown of Kinngait (Cape Dorset). Feheley Fine Arts introduced drawings by Samayualie for the first time at Art Toronto 2015, followed by an exhibition in January of 2016 along with the drawings of her sister, Nicotye Samayualie.
