This year Feheley Fine Arts is pleased to be the Canadian Host Gallery for the 2015 Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection. Along with our preview of the first edition prints, we are delighted to be hosting a gallery talk on Friday, October 16, from 1-3 pm with two wonderful artists featured in this year’s collection, Papiara Tukiki and Saimaiyu Akesuk.

Tukiki, an elder in the community, has been a delightful mainstay of the annual collection since her first prints were introduced in 2004. Papiara’s simple forms capture the essence of her subject, ranging from camp scenes to animals on the land. Saimayu Akesuk, a fascinating new artist in the Kinngait studios, is being featured for the third year in the print collection. Saimaiyu’s confident drawings of birds and bears are characterized by her bold and dynamic simplicity rendered with soft tenderness. Both artists are also part of Inuit Now, an exciting new aspect to the print collection, which demonstrates highly contemporary and inventive approaches to printmaking.

After our gallery talk at Feheley Fine Arts, both artists will travel to the Brooklyn Museum on October 18th, to participate in a panel discussion with moderator Nancy Campbell, and panelists Susan Kennedy Zeller, Associate Curator of Native American Art, Brooklyn Museum; and New York collector Edward J. Guarino.
